Akira is a Japanese movie that was made by Toho, based on the manga series of the same name. The broadcast on Adult Swim's Toonami block was censored to comply with Standards and Practices (but is noteworthy for being the first time 'shit' was allowed to be said uncensored on the block.

  • The scene that shows a thug walking by a stair case was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. In the uncensored version their is writing on the staircase that says "Fuck you". In the Adult Swim version the writing was changed to "Buck you".
  • The scene that shows Yamagata leaving the bar was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. In the uncensored version there is writing on the wall that says "Fuck you". In the Adult Swim version the writing says "Buck you".
  • The scene where Shotaro Kaneda says "Fuck!" was muted.
  • The scene that shows writing on the bleachers was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. In the uncensored version the writing says "Fuck". In the Adult Swim version the writing says "Buck".
  • The scene that shows Kaori's boobs was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. In the Adult Swim version pieces of her ripped up shirt covers her boobs.
  • The scene that shows Kaori bleeding and getting up was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. In the uncensored version she isn't wearing a shirt or a bra, as a result you can see most of her boobs. In the Adult Swim version she is wearing a bra.
  • The scene that shows writing on a red wall was modified for the Adult Swim broadcast. In the uncensored version the writing says "Fuck you". In the Adult Swim version the writing says "Buck you".

The Japanese version and the DVD's are completely uncensored.
