Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is a action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar Leeds/Rockstar North and published by Rockstar. The video game was released on 24 October 2005 for the PlayStation Portable and later ported to the PlayStation 2. The game was censored in Germany in order to be released with a USK 16 rating. Additionally, it was affected by CERO's policies for release in Japan.

Censorship[]

German censorship[]

  • The game was originally banned due to high-impact gory violence, then it was released in 2012 after it was censored.
  • You can no longer kick people lying on the ground.
  • The chainsaw no longer plunges into people.
  • You can no longer create additional blood effects by firing people who are dead.
  • The sniper rifle no longer is able to blast heads off, and the blood effect for it was removed.
  • The scene that shows the chauffeur's head being blasted off in the mission Love & Lead was modified for the German release. In the German version the head doesn't get blasted off the body.
  • In the uncensored if you run over dead people you see red tire tracks. In the German version that blood effect was removed.
  • Money no longer spawns next to/near dead people.
  • In the uncensored version you get points for running over pedestrians in Mission Karmageddon. In the German version you don't get any points for running over people.
  • Rampage missions were toned down.

Japanese censorship[]

  • The sniper rifle no longer is able to blast heads off, and the blood effect for it was removed.
  • You can no longer beat people for money.
  • Headshots no longer cause blood splatters.
  • In the uncensored if you ran over dead people, you saw red tire tracks. In the Japanese version, that blood effect was removed.
  • People who have fallen on the ground can no longer be chased.
  • Any mission that involves killing civilians was removed.
  • Any mission that involves killing a set number of people was changed for the Japanese release. In the Japanese version the amount of people that need to be killed is lower than the uncensored version.
  • The scene that shows blood dripping from the car in The Made Man was modified for the Japanese release. In the Japanese version there is no blood.
  • The Mission Slash TV's target was changed to a creature.
  • You no longer get bonus points for killing civilians in Karageddon.

Saudi Arabian censorship[]

  • The game was banned in Saudi Arabia due to its violent content.

Where to find it uncensored[]

Every other region has it uncensored.
