This is a non-exhaustive list of content Max (formerly HBO Max) has censored in North America.

Censorship[]

Across the Universe (film)[]

  • Sexuality was toned down. (This change was made to every version of the film to obtain a lower rating. There is no way to view it uncensored outside of bonus material)

The Amazing World of Gumball[]

  • Violence and language was toned down. (It is using the censored Cartoon Network US versions)

Aqua Teen Hunger Force[]

  • A computer message was altered to remove some profanities and some profanity is still censored due a lack of a fully uncensored version. In addition, the episode "Shake Like Me" is not featured due to the premise where Shake becomes a black man. The infamous banned episode "Boston" is also not featured.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery[]

  • HBO Max is airing the censored US release. (This censorship was not done by HBO Max but instead done by New Line Cinema when the movie was released in the US)

Basic Instinct 2[]

  • HBO Max is airing the censored US release. (This censorship was not done by HBO Max but instead done Sony in order to get a R rating)

Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn[]

  • Sexuality, language and violence were toned down due to HBO Max using a TV-14 edited version of the movie on accident. The R rated version was uploaded later correcting the mistake.

Bonnie and Clyde (film)[]

  • Sexuality was toned down, due to the film using a widescreen version.

The Boondocks[]

  • "The Story of Jimmy Rebel" is not available due to its portrayal of racism.

Chuck[]

  • Nudity is pixelated. (There is no uncensored version)

Close Enough[]

  • Profanity is bleeped out, and nudity is censored.

Cursed[]

  • Sexuality and violence were toned down and strong language removed. (This censorship was not done by HBO Max but instead the studio that distributes the movie. The film is using the censored PG-13 cut of the movie.)

Daredevil (movie)[]

  • Violence was toned down. (Uses the PG-13 cut instead of the R-rated director's cut)

Death Note (anime)[]

  • The English dub was made more family friendly. (This censorship was not done by HBO Max but instead the company that produces the sub)

Dexter's Laboratory[]

  • The banned episode "Rude Removal" is not featured. In addition, the Dial M for Monkey short "Barbequor" is not featured due to copyright issues with Marvel Comics.

Dressed to Kill[]

  • Sexuality was toned down. (Uses some of the scenes from the censored R rated cut instead of the uncensored scenes in the Unrated cut)

Ed, Edd n Eddy[]

  • One episode censored the word "stupid".

Eyes Wide Shut[]

  • Nudity was censored (Due to the film using the R rated cut instead of the NC-17 unrated cut.)

Fired Up![]

Sexuality was toned down. (Due to the film using the PG-13 cut instead of the unrated edition)

The Fog[]

  • The theatrical PG-13 cut is shown instead of the uncensored unrated version, as a result violence is toned down.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood[]

  • Language was toned down and some religious references were removed. (This censorship only applies to the English Dub.)

Gone with the Wind[]

  • The film was banned until June 25, 2020, the film when it was readded added a intro that talks about the racism in the film.

Gomorrah[]

  • Racist lines were edited in the English dub.

Harley Quinn (TV Show)[]

  • A sex scene was removed from the show due to DC's Executives, and the C word is bleeped out.

Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay[]

  • Uses the R rated cut instead of the unrated cut, as a result sexuality was toned down.

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle[]

  • Uses the R rated cut instead of the unrated cut, as a result sexuality was toned down. (This censorship is not done by HBO Max but instead the distributer of the film)

Horrible Bosses[]

  • Uses the R rated cut instead of the unrated cut, the film was made more family friendly.

Impractical Jokers[]

  • Five episodes were banned.

Jackie Brown[]

  • Sexuality was toned down.

Key and Peele[]

  • Nudity and language are censored (They are using the censored comedy central TV broadcast.)

Looney Tunes[]

  • The infamous 12 banned cartoons are not available on HBO Max along with a number of other cartoons that are considered racist. Some scenes from shorts on the platform are censored.
  • No Speedy Gonzales cartoon is present due to Warner Bros. being concerned about the character being a racial stereotype, even though Speedy Gonzales is immensely popular among Latin Americans.

Lords of Dogtown[]

  • Sexuality was toned down and strong language and offensive dialogue removed. (Uses the PG-13 cut not the unrated cut)

Natural Born Killers[]

  • Sexuality and violence were toned due to them using the censored R rated cut and not the uncensored director's cut.

The Notebook[]

Cut the ending scene where the couple died together.

The Office[]

  • Due to the 2020 BLM riots/protests one of the episodes was edited to remove "racist" content.

Point Blank (1967)[]

  • Sexuality was toned down.

Popeye[]

  • Several shorts are not available due to being considered racist.

The Powerpuff Girls[]

  • "See Me, Feel Me, Gnomey" is not available, as it is banned in America.

The Professional[]

  • The theatrical cut is shown instead of the International cut, as a result sexuality is toned down.

Regular Show[]

  • Language was censored. (used from the censored version shown in Cartoon Network US reruns.)

Reno911[]

  • Nudity and language are censored (used from the censored comedy central TV broadcasts.)

Requiem for a Dream[]

  • Nudity is censored, due to the R rated cut being shown instead of the uncensored NC-17 Director's cut.

Rick and Morty[]

  • Nudity is censored. (There is no uncensored version of any scene that contains nudity while the uncensored Blu-rays and DVDs due have all swears uncensored they never uncensored the nudity so as a result Rick and Morty on HBO Max has the nudity still censored.)

Robot Chicken[]

  • Language in seasons 1-5 are censored. Season 5 Episode 21 and forward are uncensored.

Sin City[]

The shot where Shelly gets slapped in the mouth by Jackie Boy was cut out.

Southland[]

  • Nudity was censored.

South Park[]

  • Episodes featuring Muhammad are not available:
  • Strong or vulgar language that is directed at the Chinese government is bleeped out.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast[]

  • Strong profanity is censored. (This is due to there being no fully uncensored version)

Terminator Salvation[]

  • The theatrical PG-13 cut is shown instead of the R rated director's cut, as a result violence and sexuality were toned down.

The Testament of Sister New Devil[]

  • Nudity is censored. (This censorship is due to Crunchyroll/Funimation airing the censored Japanese airings on their platforms while the Blu-Rays use the uncensored versions. Though the English dub is uncensored on Crunchyroll, the English dub however is on on HBO Max.)

The Prince[]

  • The show was delayed from its late spring 2021 after the death of Prince Phillip. The show eventually was released on 29 July 2021, after Prince Phillip had left the American public conscious.

Tokyo Revengers[]

  • The show was censored worldwide to remove a potentially offensive symbol.

Tom and Jerry[]

  • Any of the short films that have blackface, racial jokes or Mammy Two-Shoes are intentionally left out.

The Wolverine[]

  • The theatrical cut is shown instead of the R-rated director's cut, as a result violence was toned down and strong language removed.

Wonder Woman (2009)[]

  • Violence was toned down before the film released in order to obtain a PG-13 release.
