Just Dance series

Just Dance is a series of rhythm games developed by Ubisoft, heavily featuring licensed music that the player can perform dance routines to. Due to the series generally targeting an E to E10+ rating (and PEGI 3, 7, or even 12), songs in every incarnation of the series have been censored for language, sexual references, alcohol/drug references, etc. (sometimes inconsistently) to receive the desired ESRB rating and keep things appropriate for younger players. Censored words or phrases are replaced with an ellipsis (...) or another word or phrase. Most frequently, the radio edits of songs are used.

Just Dance 2020 is the last video game to be available for the Wii worldwide.

International censorship

Just Dance

•  Blondie - Heart of Glass: The version of the song used is a radio edit which changes "to be a pain in the ass" to "had a heart of glass".
• Katy Perry - Hot N Cold: The version of the song used changes the word "b**ch" to "chick", and is even referred to as the "Chick Version" in-game.

Just Dance 2

• Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend: The words "damn", "hell", and "motherf**king" are blanked out, except for in the phrase "What the hell were you thinking?", which is changed to "What type were you thinking?", yet appears as "What the ... were you thinking?".
• Boney M. - Rasputin: The song fades out right before the line "Ra-Ra-Rasputin/Russia's greatest love machine/And so they shot him til' he was dead".
• Ini Kamoze (covered by The Hit Crew) - Here Comes the Hotstepper: The cover replaces “murderer” with “word ‘em up”.
• Estelle - American Boy (feat. Kanye West): The standard radio edit is used, in which the word "f**k" is blanked out.
•  Ke$ha - TiK ToK: The words "junk" and "drunk" are blanked out.
•  Outkast - Hey Ya!: "Come-a" (a slang term for ejaculation) is blanked out.
•  Kriss Kross (covered by Studio Allstars in-game) - Jump: The word "bull crap" is blanked out.

Just Dance: Summer Party

(released as Just Dance 2: Extra Songs in Australia and Europe)

• Estelle - American Boy (feat. Kanye West): This game has some additional censorship to the song from the original Just Dance 2 for unknown reasons. The verse "Don't like his baggy jeans, but imma like what's underneath them" has every word after "baggy" blanked out. The word "hell" is later additionally blanked out. These censors, however, only apply to the PAL version (Extra Songs) and not the Summer Party NTSC version, which leaves these uncensored with the ESRB's rating summary even using those as examples of "mildly suggestive" material.

Just Dance 3

• Anja (ANNEA) - Baby Don't Stop Now: The original song had some lines that contain sexual innuendos; thus, they were changed to different lyrics in-game, "You make me so hot" is changed to "Believe it or not", "Let's do it" is changed to "Keep dancing", "When we make love it's so strong, let's do it all night long" is changed to "It feels so right, can't be wrong, I knew it all along".
• Black Eyed Peas - Pump It: The words "n****s", "s**t", "a**", and "damn" are blanked out, and "This joint is fizzlin" is changed to "Come on, it's fizzlin".
• B.o.B. - Airplanes: The words "shit" and "hell" are blanked out.
• Cee Lo Green - Forget You: The standard clean version of the song, which replaces 'f**k you' with 'forget you' is used. The words "s**t" and "n*gga" are blanked out, while "ass" is distorted.
• Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For: The clean version is used, in which "h*e" is blanked out. The game itself further blanks out "damn".
• Katy Perry - California Gurls (feat. Snoop Dogg): The words "sex", "we freak", "buns", "ass", and "weenies" are blanked out.
• Katy Perry - E.T. - All of Kanye West's lines are removed including the start and the last part.
• LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem (feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock): The words "my jocks", "h*es", "cash", and "you're naked now" are blanked out.
• Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous (feat. Timbaland):  The words "hit it", "with nothing on" and "before you bring that on" are blanked out. However, Timbaland's repeating of "Bring that on?" is not censored.
• Taio Cruz - Dynamite: The standard radio edit is used, in which the word "f**k" is distorted.

Just Dance Kids 2

(released as Just Dance Kids in Australia and Europe)

• Big Time Rush - Big Time Rush: The song was replaced by Party Goes Down, the codename do reference at the original song.
  • The song is mentioned in an early game cover.
• Big Time Rush - Halfway There: The song was replaced by On Our Way, the codename do reference at the original song.
• Knaan - Wavin' Flag: The song was replaced by Hand In Hand, the codename do reference at the original song.

The Smurfs Dance Party

• Aly & AJ (covered by Gigi Abraham in-game) - Like Whoa: "Holdin' on, white knuckles like whoa, whoa" is changed to "Holdin' on, but not goes like whoa, whoa", when it is sung in the outro, it is left like the original but with the addition of a "my" in the line, resulting on "Holdin' on my white knuckles, whoa". "Got me feelin' like" is changed to "I'm telling like", but it is displayed like the former in the lyrics. "Up and down and side to side" is changed to "I'm telling side to side", but it is displayed like the former in the lyrics. The second time "Got me feelin' like" is sung in the chorus, it is changed to "Everything i'm like". "My inhibitions are beginning to let go" is changed to "All of my ambitions are beginning to let go". "You're an affliction that I cannot seem to break" is changed to "No inner friction that I cannot seem to break". "Once you let your love in, whoa" is changed to "Won't you let your lovin' roll?".
• The Smurfs - Don't Stop Smurfing: The song was replaced by Living Color, the codename do reference at the original song.

The Black Eyed Peas Experience

This game has most of the strong language uncensored, which is part of the reason it had a higher age rating (ESRB T and PEGI 12).

• David Guetta ft. will.i.am - Nothing Really Matters: "F**k" is censored.
• The Black Eyed Peas - Boom Boom Pow: The clean version is used in the trailer, despite the explicit version being used in-game.
• The Black Eyed Peas - Cali to New York (ft. De La Soul): "N****s" is censored.
• The Black Eyed Peas - Disco Club: "N****s" is censored.
• The Black Eyed Peas - Do It Like This: "N***a" is censored.
• The Black Eyed Peas - Don't Lie: "F**king" is censored.
• The Black Eyed Peas - Hey Mama: "N***as" is censored.
  • "T*ts" is omitted from the lyrics in the Xbox 360 version, but can still be heard.
• The Black Eyed Peas - Imma Be: "Motherf**kin' crew" is replaced with "mother mother crew", "N***as" from the line "Imma be the whole reason why you n***as come to a show" is replaced with "even", from the line "Y'all n***as wanna talk s**t" is censored entirely, and from the lines "Wanting you put it in the blog (n***a)" and "Rocking like this my job (n***a)" is replaced with "but".
• The Black Eyed Peas - Let's Get It Started (Spike Mix): "S**t" is censored on the Xbox 360 version, but it is not censored on the Wii version.
• The Black Eyed Peas - My Style (ft. Justin Timberlake): "Chocha" is censored.
• The Black Eyed Peas - Pump It: "N***as" is censored.

The Hip Hop Dance Experience

• B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams of Paramore - Airplanes: "S**t" is censored.
• Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes - Look at Me Now: The routine uses the official clean version, resulting in the censorship of sh*t, n****s, d*ck, p***y, f**k, b***h, f*****ts, and motherf***er.
• Da Brat - Funkdafied: The clean version of the song is used, "This n***a named J" is replaced with "This homie named J", "It's the ghetto a** b***h" is replaced with "And on top of all that", "N***a that's my clique, n***a that's who I rolls with" is replaced with "Ay yo that's my clique, ay homie that's who I rolls with, "Fat s**t" is replaced with "fattest shhh", "With the real s**t, we got the s**t you can't funk with" is replaced with "that they just ain't ready for but they just don't hear me though", "Well, it's da G H da E T T O, n***a" is replaced with "Well, comin' straight from the 6-0-6-4-4", "I got the s**t to make your neck snap back" is replaced with "I'll make your neck snap back", "Meaning I got the s**t" is replaced with "Meaning I got the hit", "Letting n***as know" is replaced with "Letting all you know" and "N***a, whoomp, there it is" is replaced with "uh, whoomp, there it is".

• Naughty by Nature - Hip Hop Hooray: "S**t" is censored.
• Nelly - Hot in Herre: "A**" and "f**king" are censored.
• New Boyz - You're a Jerk: "Waist", "geeked" (first usage only), "r****d", and "hit it" are censored.
• Nicki Minaj ft. Drake - Moment 4 Life: "H*es", "b***hes", "n***as", "weed", "f**k", "damn", and "s**t" are censored.
• Ol' Dirty Bastard ft. Kelis - Got Your Money: "P***y", "f**king", "b**ch", "b**ches", "n***as", "n***a", "co***ie", "ass", and "d**k" are censored.

• A.K.A. - Hot For Me: The clean version of the song is used in-game, in which "lollipop bra" is changed to "pop pop pop ..." (with "bra" being censored); and "f**k" is censored during the line "I'll show you how to ... right" with a beeping sound effect.
• Bruno Mars - The Lazy Song: "Pants", "sex", "God", and "birthday" (from "birthday suit") are censored.
• Bunny Beatz ft. Liquid - Make The Party (Don't Stop): "Damn" is censored.
• Christina Aguilera (covered by The Girly Team in-game) - Ain't No Other Man: The line "You're badass" is censored, unlike most censored terms, it is not replaced with an ellipsis.
• Cher Lloyd ft. Astro - Want U Back: "S**t" is censored.
• Cher Lloyd ft. Becky G - Oath: "Damn" is censored.
• Flo Rida - Good Feeling: The word "God" (in the context of "drinking what God sip", which was determined to be blasphemous) was blanked out.
• Jennifer Lopez ft. Pitbull - On the Floor: "S**t", "chonky Coke", and "Donkey Konged" are censored.
• Justin Bieber - Beauty and a Beat (feat. Nicki Minaj): The word "b**ches" is blanked out. Like Snoop Dogg censored the word on Katy Perry's "California Gurls" in the previous game, while "wiener" (in the context of "Buns out, wiener") is distorted.
• Kat DeLuna - Run the Show (feat. Busta Rhymes): "Busty, bossy" is backmasked.
• Ke$ha - Die Young: "Pants" and "stripping" are distorted.
• Ke$ha - We R Who We R: "Sexified", "s**t", "damn", and "hittin'" are distorted.
• Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger: The word "s**t" is censored.
• Nelly Furtado - Maneater: "Nympho" is censored.
• Nicki Minaj - Super Bass: The words "coke" (referring to cocaine), "motherf**king", "hoe", "hell", "F 'I'", and the "n-word" are distorted, while "panties" is blanked out.
• Rihanna - Disturbia: The word "s**t" is blanked out.
• Selena Gomez & the Scene - Hit The Lights: "Damn" is censored.
• Skrillex - Rock N' Roll (Will Take You To The Mountain): The word "god" (in context of "Oh my god!") is censored in the lyrics but not in the audio, and "You can eat s**t and f**kin'" and "f**k you" are distorted.
• Will Smith - Wild Wild West: "Damn" and "chest" (from the line "Gonna test your chest") are censored.

• Ariana Grande ft. Mac Miller - The Way: "I just crush a lot" and "freak" are censored.
• Avril Lavigne - Rock N Roll: "Bulls**t", "motherf**king" (replaced with "motherfrickin'"), and "middle" (from "middle finger") are censored.
• Bob Marley - Could You Be Loved: "Hell" is censored.
• Daft Punk - Robot Rock: The song was replaced by Nitro Bot, the codename do reference at the original song.
• Far East Movement ft. Cover Drive - Turn Up the Love: "Freaks" and "damn" are censored.
• Fedez - Alfonso Signorini (Eroe Nazionale): The words "glutei", "figa" and "piscia" are distorted.
• Jason Derulo - The Other Side: The word "drunk like in Tonight We’ll get drunk" is blanked out.
• Jessie J ft. Big Sean - Wild: The word "damn" is distorted but it can be heard a bit.
• Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl: The word "cherry" (in reference to "the taste of her cherry chapstick") is distorted in the chorus. This led to confusion within the fan community. While it is true that cherry is slang for a woman's hymen, it is not what Katy Perry meant; she meant the literal flavor of the chapstick.
• Ke$ha - C'mon: The words "wine", "hooters", "gimme" (in reference of "Gimme some of that"), "lollipop", and "get it on" are distorted, while the phrase "I wanna just screw around" the word "screw" is blanked out.
• Macklemore & Ryan Lewis ft. Ray Dalton - Can't Hold Us: "Pimp", "s**t" and "damn" are censored.
• Nicki Minaj - Pound the Alarm: "Skeezer" (referring to a woman's poor hygiene) is blanked out and "b**ch" is distorted.
• Nicki Minaj - Starships: The official clean version is used, except for some additional censorship to distort the word "mother" in "motherf**ker" in the chorus. The words "b**ches" and "f**k" are also distorted, while "sh*ts" is blanked out. There is a radio edit where "check" is used instead of "f**k."
• Olly Murs ft. Flo Rida - Troublemaker: The words "damn" and "hell" are distorted.
• PSY - Gentleman: The phrases "Damn girl" is replaced with "You girl" and "You're so freaking sexy!" is changed to "You're so really sexy!". In the bridge, "gonna make you wet" (which can easily be misinterpreted as sexual) is changed to a repeat of "gonna make you sweat".
• Ricky Martin - María: "Sexual" (from the line "Ella es un espejismo sexual") is censored.
• Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines (feat. Pharrell Williams):  The words "b**ch" is distorted and "blasted" is blanked out. all of T.I.'s lines were never heard, including the rap.
• Tai - Danse (Pop Version): The main version of Danse features Flo Rida. However, since the Pop Version is used, he is not featured.

Just Dance Kids 2014

• Selena Gomez & the Scene - Hit The Lights: The word "damn" is censored. This game used the same censorship as Just Dance 4.

Just Dance 2015

• Icona Pop - I Love It (feat. Charli XCX): The official clean version is used, in which the word "s**t" is replaced with "stuff" and "b**ch" is replaced with "chick". The word "damn" is additionally distorted.
• Iggy Azalea ft. Rita Ora - Black Widow: The word "fucking", and "do" (from the line "That will do ya how I do ya") are blanked out or distorted. Also, while not a clean-version, or JD censor, "s**t" is "shhh" in all versions of the song.
• Jessie J ft. Ariana Grande & Nicki Minaj - Bang Bang: The word "booty" is blanked out, "Bad back seat of my car" (referring to sex) the whole line is distorted and "on wood" (in the context of Kidding so good, it's dripping on wood, but in the same line "Kitten" is replaced with "Kidding") is blanked out
• Katy Perry - Dark Horse (feat. Juicy J): Using the traditional radio edit, all of Juicy J's lines are removed, including the start and the rap.
• Miley Cyrus - 4 x 4: The words "bangin'", 'piss', and 'hell' are blanked out by gunshots.
• Miley Cyrus - We Can't Stop: The phrase "We can screw who we want" is replaced with "We can live how we want". The words "hell", "Molly" (in the context of "Dancing with Molly", referring to ecstasy), "butts", "strip", and "line" are blanked out.
• Rihanna - Diamonds: The word 'molly' is blanked out in the phrase 'as we moonshine and Molly'.
• Run-DMC - Walk This Way (feat. Aerosmith): The word "muffin" (in the context of "Till you're down on her muffin", referring to oral sex) is blanked out.

Just Dance 2016

• AronChupa - I'm An Albatraoz: "B**ch" and "h*e" are censored, and "f**k" (from the line "But f**k that little mouse") is replaced with "who's".
• Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling: The world "God" (in context of "Like oh my god") and "cup" (in context of "Fill up my cup") are distorted.
• David Guetta ft. Nicki Minaj, Bebe Rexha & Afrojack - Hey Mama: "Freak", "nana", "d**k", "b**ches", and "f**king" are censored, however"Nana" was not censored during E3.
  • In the E3 demo, an alternate version of the song was used, where the part that samples Rosie by Alan Lomax is covered.
• Demi Lovato - Cool for the Summer: The standard radio edit is used, in which the word "f**k" is blanked out.
• Iggy Azalea - Fancy (feat. Charli XCX) - "B**ch", "retarded", "drunk", "f**k", "hoes", and "gun" are blanked or distorted by using the official clean version.
• Lady Gaga - Born This Way: The starting lines such as "It doesn't matter if you love him" and the concluding lines such as "Same DNA, but born this way" have been removed from the track used in-game.
• MAX - Gibberish: The word "crack" is blanked out due to a reference on the drug, and Hoodie Allen's entire verse is cut out for an unspecified reason, but most likely due to excessive innuendos.
• Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk (feat. Bruno Mars): The word "b**ch" is blanked out.
• Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass: The version used is an alternate version recorded for very clean/family-oriented outlets in which sexually suggestive phases/those determined as too harsh or body-shaming are completely altered. For example, the phrases "All the right junk in all the right places" is changed to "I'll be that star in all them big stages" and "We know that s**t ain't real" is changed to "We know that it ain't real". 
• Pitbull ft. Chris Brown - Fun: "Heels" and "thong" are censored.
• Prince Royce - Stuck On A Feeling: Snoop Dogg's rap is cut in the final version of the game.
• Selena Gomez - Same Old Love: The word "s**t" is distorted. 

Just Dance 2017

• DNCE - Cake by the Ocean: The radio edit is used, which changes "f**king crazy" to "crazy crazy" and "You're f**king delicious" to "You're so delicious". The radio edition's edit of "goddamn" to "hot damn" is additionally censored to blank out the "damn".
• DJ Snake ft. Justin Bieber - Let Me Love You: "Hell" is censored.
• Era Istrefi - Bonbon: "Blunt" and "n***a" (from "Se na high jenna n***a") are censored. "N***a" was already censored in the music video version. Additionally, it does not appear as "..." in the lyrics.
• Jack & Jack - Groove: "Damn", "s**t", and "b***h" are censored.
• Maroon 5 - Don't Wanna Know: The word "bed" (in the context of "you're still in my bed") is blanked out.
• Psy ft. CL of 2NE1 - DADDY: "Michi****eun" is censored in the lyrics and replaced with a part of CL's line.
  • In pre-release copies of Just Dance 2017 and Just Dance Now, the word could still be heard.
• Queen - Don't Stop Me Now: "Sex" is replaced with "race" in the audio, but it is replaced with the ellipses in the lyrics.
  • However, the word "sex" was not censored when it was used at the Ubisoft E3 press conference.
• will.i.am - Scream & Shout (feat. Britney Spears) - The version used is an official radio edit, in which "turn this s**t up" is changed to "turn, turn it up" and "b**ch" is replaced by a clap.

Just Dance 2018

• Ariana Grande - Side to Side (feat. Nicki Minaj): In Nicki Minaj's lines, "d**k", "b**ches", and "f**ks" are distorted and the phrase "Let them h*es know" is changed to "Let them know".
•  Big Freedia - Make it Jingle: The ending line of the song, "Don't lose 'em, b**ch!", is removed, but is not replaced by ellipses.
•  Britney Spears - Slumber Party: The word "f**king" is blanked out.
•  Bruno Mars - 24K Magic: The words "rocket", "b**ches", "ass", "pimp", and "s**t" are blanked out.
•  DNCE - Kissing Strangers (feat. Nicki Minaj): The words "taste" (in the context of "wanna taste you"), "tongue him down", "Hard, got that China white", "b**ches", "drip drip", "kitty cat", "sip sip", and "tip tip" are blanked out.
• Dua Lipa - Blow Your Mind (Mwah): "Of wine" is blanked out of the line "finish your glass of wine", and the same goes for "f**k" in "if we don't f**k this whole thing up".
• Iggy Azalea - Boom Boom: The word 'back-scratcher' is censored.
• Jamiroquai - Automaton: "Junkie" is blanked out.
• Jax Jones - Instruction (feat. Demi Lovato & Stefflon Don): The censored version changes "B**ch, I don't need introduction" to "no, I don't need introduction" and "cock" is blanked out.
• Katy Perry - Swish Swish (feat. Nicki Minaj): "F**k" in "what the f**k?" is blanked out. In Nicki Minaj's lines, "b**ch", "damn", "ass", "pimp", and "s**t" are censored through blanking and distorting. "N***a" is censored, however that's already censored in the official version of the song, not manually censored by the game. When "b**ch" is said by Katy Perry, it is not censored and appears in the lyrics as "bish".
• Lady Gaga - John Wayne: "Beer" is blanked out of the lyrics.
•  Luis Fonsi - Despacito (feat. Daddy Yankee): The clean version of the song is used; thus, "de peligro" (from "Déjame sobrepasar tus zonas de peligro") is replaced with "de tu ritmo" but appears completely censored, "gritos", "bam bam" (from "Sabes que esa beba está buscando de mi bam bam" and "Sabes que tu corazón conmigo te hace bam bam"), "pieza" (from the line "Es que esa belleza es un rompecabezas pero pa montarlo aquí tengo la pieza") and "Hasta que las olas griten '¡ay, bendito!'" are censored.
  • Although "gritos" is censored, the last "Hasta provocar tus gritos" is not censored.
  • On 7th-generation consoles and Wii U, the verse, "I can move forever", from the Justin Bieber remix, was sung instead of "Para que mi sello".
• Sabrina Carpenter - Thumbs: "Multiply" is blanked, because it refers to sexual reproduction in this context.

Just Dance 2019

• Arash - OMG (feat. Snoop Dogg): "Just blaze the J" is distorted so that after "no fading away" the song just fades away, and "just blazing ray" is blanked out.
• Aventura - Obsesión: The third verse and outro are cut from the track, shortening the song by about 1 minute.
  • An unused version of the routine can be found in the Just Dance Unlimited servers, in this version, the second verse was originally shortened from "Yo sé que le gustaba, y le di una mirada" to "Luego te puse un beeper y no había conexión", and the third one was originally shortened from the line "Pues ya no tengo amigos por sólo hablar de ti" to the line "Ven vive una aventura, hagamos mil locuras". Besides, the outro was not altered.
• Bea Miller - Sweet Little Unforgettable Thing: The original title is "S.L.U.T.", which is an acronym spelling "slut", so it was changed to the full title when referred to in-game. Also, "ass" is blanked out in the song itself.
• Fergie - A Little Party Never Killed Nobody: The word "goddamn" is still audible, but is misinterpreted as "got damn" in the lyrics.
• Plastic Bertrand (covered by Bob Platine in-game) - Ca Plane Pour Moi: The words "whiskey", "bière", and "alcool" are blanked out, while the phrases "Un sparadrap", "Une gueule de bois", "De s'envoyer", "Sur le paillasson", "Limée, ruinée, vidée, comblée", and "connard" are distorted.
• Britney Spears - Work Work: The game uses an official edited version in which the song's title is changed from "Work Bitch" (officially stylized as "Work B*tch") to "Work Work" and the lyrics are changed consistently with that. "Now get to work, b**ch!" is changed to simply "Now get to work!" and in "I am the bad b**ch, the b**ch that you'll never know", both of those usages of the word "b**ch" are distorted.
• Drake - Nice For What: In this track, which was later removed on modern era consoles through a title update for third party rights issues, "f**kin'" (in "mothaf**kin'") was distorted, "s**t" and "mothaf**kin'" (in "Everybody get your mothaf**kin' roll on") were blanked out, "h*es" was censored through blanking (in "H*es talk down") or distorting (in "These h*es"), and "ass" and "n***as" were blanked out. "Hit them mothaf**kin' angles" was dubbed over as "hit them hit them hit them angles".
