Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is an action-stealth video game that was developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Japan and published by Konami. The video game was released on November 17, 2004. The European and North American releases were censored.

Censorship

European Censorship

• The scene that shows BigBoss meeting Ocelot was modified for the European release. In the European version the amount of blood on the ground was reduced.
• The scene that shows EVA being hurt by Colonel Volgi was modified for the European release. In the European version the the blue flashes were mostly removed and the blue electrical energy is no longer all over his arm.
• The pool of blood around Volgin when he is in the barrel was modified for the European release. In the European version the blood was made a lighter red.
• The scene that shows a scientist getting catapulted into the air with the barrel and then falling onto the ground was modified for the European release. The lightning bolts traveling through his dead body were removed. And the two blue flashes were recolored white.
• The scene that shows BigBoss getting caught and beaten up by Colonel Volgin was modified for the European release. In the European version the blue lightning was mostly removed. When not removed it was recolored white.
• The scene that shows BigBoss getting knocked unconscious was modified for the European release. In the European version the blood stains around him were reduced.
• The scene that shows BigBoss losing his right eye was modified for the European release. In the European version the blood was made a lighter more pale color.
• The blood around BigBoss after losing his right eye was reduced.
• At the end of the first fight against Colonel Volgin, two blue electrical discharges on his body were recolored white.
• The blood Colonel Volgin coughs up after Colonel Volgin was reduced.
• The scene that shows the bomb going off during the escape from the mountain base was modified for the European release. In European version the explosions were reduced.

• The scene that shows Volgin going up in flames was modified for the European release. In the European version the smoke around Volgin was removed.
• The scene that shows a motorcycle accident was modified fort the European release. In the European version the blood around EVA was made a lighter color.
• The scene that shows blood around EVA after the motorcycle accident was reduced.

North American Censorship

• The pool of blood around Volgin when he is in the barrel was modified for the North American release. In the North American version the pool of blood was reduced.
• The scene that shows BigBoss getting electrocuted by Colonel Volgin was modified for the North American release. In the North American version there were less blue lightning and BigBoss doesn't jerk around like he does in other regions.
