Mortal Kombat is a American fighting game that was made by Midway, and it was released on 1992. Due to a massive public outcry about violence in video games Nintendo and Sega censored the game. While Sega had a cheat code to remove most of the censorship Nintendo had no such cheat code.

This is one of the most notable examples of Nintendo's policies affecting violent video games such as Mortal Kombat. It also led to the creation of Sega's Videogame Rating Council for Genesis video games.
