Mortal Kombat is a fighting video game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. It is the ninth main installment of the Mortal Kombat series, serving as a soft reboot. It was released on April 19, 2011 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Due to its graphic content, the game was banned in some regions.
Censorship
Australian censorship
- The game was banned in Australia for high impact gory violence. An appeal was lodged but failed. Eventually, with the introduction of an adult rating for computer games, the Komplete Edition was classified R18+ without any modifications.
German censorship
- The game was indexed by the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons for "drastic representations of violence".
South Korean censorship
- It was refused a rating by the Game Rating and Administration Committee, and thus Mortal Kombat could not be legally sold or advertised within South Korea.
