UK

  • 101 Dalmatians (live-action) - A single use of the word 'bloody' was dubbed over with 'blinkin' in order to receive a U rating.
  • Aadupuliyattam - 27 seconds of strong violence and horror removed to receive a 12A rating.
  • Aarambam - Some strong violence cut to receive a 12A rating.
  • ABCD: American-Born Confused Desi - Some strong language censored to receive a 12A rating.
  • Absolutely Anything - Some strong language was removed on the film's theatrical release to receive a 12A rating.
  • A Christmas Story (2016) - A single use of discriminatory language was removed in order to receive a U rating.
  • Agent Cody Banks - A shot of a double ear clap was cut to receive a 12A/12 rating for theatrical and DVD release.
  • A Hard Day's Night - A line of suggestive dialogue ("Get knotted") was cut to receive a U rating.
  • Baaghi - Some strong violence (focus on bloody injury, limbs being broken, and blood spurts) cut to receive a 12A rating.
  • Babylon 5: Messages from Earth - Scene of man wielding chainsticks cut to receive a PG rating.
  • Battle on the Beach - Cut for a U rating in 1961. Released with 5 seconds of compulsory cuts and a PG rating on DVD in 2013.
  • Bad Man's River - Cut for an A (now PG) rating on original theatrical release. Released uncut with a 12 rating on DVD in 2003.
  • Bare Behind Bars - Unsimulated scenes of fellatio and penetration cut to receive an 18 rating, rather than the R18 sex shop category.
  • Big - A single use of strong language removed to receive a PG rating. Released uncut with a 12 rating on Blu-Ray in 2014.
  • Billy Madison - A use of strong language and some violence was removed to receive a PG rating. Released uncut with a 12 rating on DVD in 2008.
  • Can't Buy Me Love - The film received 1 minute and 14 seconds of cuts on its original theatrical release to receive a PG rating (this was before the 12/12A rating) in 1988. It was released uncut with a 15 on home video the same year.
  • The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) - Two shots of a man hanging were cut to receive a PG rating.
  • Dilwale - Some strong violence cut to receive a 12A rating.
  • The DUFF - A scene with strong sex references was removed from the theatrical release in order to receive a 12A. Remained cut on home video.
  • Eraser - Perhaps the most notoriously cut film by the BBFC, a total of 43 cuts were made in order for the film to receive its recommended 15 rating on home video. The film was released uncut with the same rating in 2009.
  • The Expendables - The impact of a man being stabbed in the throat was cut for theatrical and DVD release to receive a 15 rating. Released uncut on Blu-Ray with an 18 rating.
  • GoldenEye - Some violence was cut for theatrical release to receive a 12 rating. Released uncut in a 2006 "ultimate edition" with a 15 rating.
  • The Heartbreak Kid - A brief scene in which a donkey's erect penis is close to a woman was cut to receive a 15 rating on theatrical and DVD release. Released uncut on HD-DVD with an 18 rating.
  • Horns - A scene of sexual violence and some very strong violence were censored to receive a 15 rating on theatrical and DVD release. Released uncut on Blu-Ray with an 18 rating.
  • Howard the Duck - A comic scene involving condoms as well as a shot of a tongue in a cigarette lighter socket were cut on theatrical and VHS release for a PG rating. A later DVD was cut more heavily for unknown reasons; finally, the film was released uncut on DVD in 2008 with a 12 rating.
  • The Hunger Games - A number of cuts were made in one scene to reduce an emphasis on blood and injury for a 12A. International cut classified 15.
  • I'm a Porn Star - Scenes of explicit pornography cut to receive an 18 rating, rather than the R18 sex shop category.
  • Jingle All The Way - A comic scene involving nunchakus was cut for a PG rating.
  • Justin Bieber's Believe - Two uses of strong language were completely obscured to receive a PG rating.
  • Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - Post-production advice led to the removal of a headbutt and other violence during a fight scene for a 12 rating. In the completed version of the film, "glamorized" images of a flick knife were cut for a 12 rating.
  • Maid in Japan - Scenes in which semen is visible as well as unsimulated oral sex were cut to receive an 18 rating, rather than the R18 sex shop category.
  • Manithan - Brief images of bloodied bodies were cut for a 12A rating.
  • Marmaduke - A single use of the word 'spaz' was removed in order to receive a U classification as opposed to a 12A.
  • Milk the Maid - Explicit real sex removed in order to receive an 18 rating, rather than the R18 sex shop category.
  • Monty Python and the Holy Grail - The initial theatrical release was cut for an A certificate, removing some sexual references and uses of 'Jesus Christ' as an exclamation.
  • Mrs. Doubtfire - A sequence of a chain of moderate sex references was removed on theatrical and video release for years in order for the film to receive a PG rating. The film was released uncut with a 12 rating in 2012.
  • My Best Friend's Wedding - A single sexual use of the word 'f***' removed in order to receive a 12 rating.
  • My Dog the Champion - A single use of the word 'spastic' removed in order to receive a U rating.
  • Mystery Men - Besides a compulsory ear-clap cut, the sound of a headbutt was removed on home video to receive a PG rating.
  • Night of the Grizzly - Cut for a U rating on 1966 theatrical release. Released uncut with a PG on home video in 1987.
  • Pixiwoo Presents: Hollywood Icons - Some strong sex references removed in order to receive a 12 rating.
  • Other Blokes' Wives 2 - Shots of labia removed in order to receive an 18 rating, rather than the R18 sex shop category.
  • Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 - A moment of moderate violence and two sequences of weapons display (knives) were cut to obtain a PG. There is no UK uncut version released.
  • Prince of Darkness - A 15-rated version released on home video removes some strong violence. Rereleased on DVD uncut with the same 15 rating.
  • Pudsey the Dog: The Movie - A single use of 'bugger' was cut to receive a U rating.
  • Sammy's Great Escape - A single use of mild bad language was cut to receive a U rating.
  • Secondhand Lions - Shots of flick knives removed from theatrical release to receive a PG. Released uncut on home video with a 12.
  • The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - When seen in an advisory screening, the BBFC informed the distributor that sight of a nude pinup and a fight scene would earn the film a 12A. The film was re-edited to receive a PG - this edited version was released worldwide as a result.
  • Short Circuit 2 - A scene of nunchaku use and two uses of strong language were removed in order to receive a PG on VHS. The most recent UK DVD release restores the nunchaku use but still has the strong language removed with a PG rating.
  • Step Up 4 - Miami Heat: A partially obscured use of 'motherf***er' and an aggressive use of 'bitch' were removed to receive a PG.
  • Theri: Some strong violence and references to sexual violence were cut to receive a 12A.
  • Thirunaal: Some strong bloody violence was cut to receive a 12A.
  • Twister - A use of strong language was removed in order to receive a PG.
  • The Wings of Honneamise - A scene of attempted rape was removed to receive a PG. Was released uncut on home video in 2015 with a 15 rating.
  • The Witches - Cut for a PG upon original release in 1990 to shorten some scenes which were considered particularly frightening to young audiences. Released uncut on home video with the same rating in 2000.

India

  • A History of Violence - A U/A cut was censored by 14 minutes.
  • Basic Instinct - A U/A cut was censored for strong sexual content, graphic violence and some language by 20 minutes. A U-rated version was further cut by 39 minutes.
  • Borat - A U/A cut was censored by 6 minutes.
  • Bridesmaids - A U/A cut was censored by 18 minutes.
  • Clerks - Profanity muted in order to receive a U rating.
  • Cruel Intentions - A U/A cut was censored for strong sexual content and some language by 17 minutes. A U-rated version was further cut by 34 minutes.
  • The Hangover - A U/A cut was censored by 32 minutes.
  • One Missed Call (English edition) - A U/A cut was censored, removing the majority of the film's violence and horror elements by being cut by 19 minutes.
  • Secretary - A U/A cut was censored for sexual content (even kissing was removed) and violence by 14 minutes.
  • The Sweetest Thing - A U-rated cut was censored by 33 minutes.

Japan

  • Antichrist - Released in an edited R15+ version in some theaters, presumably cutting some extreme gore and graphic sex.
  • Blue is the Warmest Color - Released in an edited R15+ version in some theaters, presumably cutting the graphic sex.
  • Carrie (2013) - Released in an edited PG-12 version in some theaters, presumably removing some strong violence.
  • Chappie - Some graphic violence removed in order to receive a PG-12 rating.
  • Dogtooth - Released in an edited R15+ version in some theaters.
  • Fifty Shades of Grey - Released in an edited R15+ version in some theaters which cut all explicit shots of bare breasts/genitals.
  • The Hangover Part II - Released in an edited R15+ version in some theaters.
  • The Kids Are All Right - Released in an edited R15+ version in theaters. Released uncensored with an R18+ on DVD.
  • Lovelace - Released in an edited R15+ version in some theaters, presumably cutting the graphic sex.
  • Savages - Released in an edited R15+ version in some theaters.
  • Ted - Released in an edited PG-12 version in some theaters, presumably removing some crude language/sexual humor.
  • The Wolf of Wall Street - Released in an edited R15+ version in some theaters, presumably cutting graphic sex and drug use.

Finland

  • Bad Lieutenant - Heavily cut for a K-16 rating on a 1994 release.
  • The Boondock Saints - Cut for a K-16 rating on a VHS release in 2000.
  • Cut! - Cut for a K-16 rating on theatrical release in 1971.
  • Cut and Run - Cut for a K-16 rating on VHS. Released uncut with a K-18 on DVD.
  • Darkman - Cut for a K-16 rating on home video release in 1991. Released uncut with a K-15 in 2003.
  • The Fall of the Roman Empire - Cut for a K-12 rating on theatrical rerelease in 1973. Modern releases are uncut with the same K-12 rating.
  • Fire Down Below - Cut for a K-16 rating on a VHS release in 1997. Released uncut on DVD with a K-18 in 2001.
  • Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer - Cut for a K-16 rating on a VHS release in 1998. Released uncut with a K-18 rating in 2001.
  • Highlander II: The Quickening - Cut for a K-16 rating on a 1991 release after initially being rated uncut with a K-18. Released uncut again with the same K-16 rating in 1998.
  • The New York Ripper - Heavily cut for a K-16 rating on home video release in 1989. Released uncut with a K-18 in 2007.
  • The Punisher - Heavily cut for a K-16 rating on releases in both 1990 and 1995. Released uncut with a K-18 in 2006.
  • Rambo: First Blood Part II - Cut for a K-16 rating on home video release in 1989. Released uncut with a K-15/13 rating in 2001.

Germany

  • Cats & Dogs - Originally released in theaters with a 12 rating. Some violence was cut on home video in order to receive a 6 rating. No uncut release available.
  • Con Air - Released cut with a 16 rating on some VHS/DVD releases. A separate uncut VHS/DVD release is available with an 18 rating.
  • Crank: High Voltage - Heavily cut for a 16 rating on DVD. A separate 18-rated DVD is available, however not even this release is fully uncut.
  • Daredevil - Cut for a 12 rating upon theatrical release.
  • Dead Alive - Heavily cut for a 16 rating on DVD. This version was made with further cuts from the 85-minute R-rated MPAA cut, taking it down to 80 minutes.
  • The Evil Dead - Heavily cut for a 16 rating on DVD.
  • Gamer - Heavily cut for a 16 rating upon theatrical release.
  • Hulk - Cut for a 12 rating upon theatrical release.
  • Iron Man - Cut for a 12 rating upon theatrical release by four minutes, however this proved unnecessary when an uncut home video release managed to get a 12 rating.
  • The Last Boy Scout - Released with heavy cuts for graphic violence on rental VHS and all DVDs for a 16 rating. An uncut version was only released on VHS with an 18 rating.
  • Maleficent - Cut for a 6 rating upon theatrical release. Remained cut on DVD, however was released uncut with a 12 rating on Blu-Ray.
  • Predator 2 - Cut for a 16 rating on DVD. Separate uncut 18-rated DVD and Blu-Ray available.
  • Saw III - A heavily cut version (cut by 21 minutes) was rated 16. A less-cut version on home video is rated 18, while a completely uncut version was placed on the SPIO/JK index.
  • Scarface - Graphic violence and language cut/removed for a 16 rating in West Germany.
  • Sleepy Hollow - Cut for a 12 rating upon theatrical release.
  • Snake in the Eagle's Shadow - Cut for a 12 rating upon theatrical release and on VHS; oddly enough, when the film was rereleased in a 16-rated DVD collection, it had been cut even further.
  • Spring Breakers - Cut for a 16 rating upon theatrical release.
  • Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie - Cut for a 16 rating on VHS.
  • The Terminator - Released heavily cut with a 16 rating for VHS/DVD releases before 2010. In 2010, the uncut version of the film was reclassified with the same 16 rating.
  • Virtuosity - Heavily cut for a 16 rating upon theatrical release. Rerated uncut in 2013 with the same rating.
  • Wedlock - Cut for a 16 rating on theatrical and home video release.
  • The Woman in Black - Cut for a 12 rating upon theatrical release.
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine - A couple being doused with gasoline was cut for a 16 rating upon theatrical release. The uncut version was released with the same 16 rating on home video.

Italy

  • Conan the Barbarian (1982) - Cut for a T rating on a release in 1991. Uncut version classified VM14.
  • Last Tango in Paris - Cut for a VM14 rating on a release in 1988. Uncut version classified VM18.

Singapore

  • 8MM - Released heavily cut for a PG rating on original release. A less cut release was rated PG13. Uncut version classified R21.
  • Along Came Polly - Cut for a PG rating on at least one release. Uncut version classified NC-16.
  • Anyone for Sex? - Cut for a PG rating on VHS release. No uncut version as of this writing.
  • Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery - Cut for a PG rating on original release. Uncut version classified NC-16.

  • 31 - Received an NC-17 rating twice before being successfully cut for an R rating.
  • The Advengers - Some Violence was cut out of the flim.
  • A Clockwork Orange - An R-rated cut was released in 1973, censoring two sexually explicit scenes to avoid an X rating. Despite this, the uncensored version of the movie was released with an R rating on later home video releases.
  • Addicted - Some sexual content was removed. Those scenes were added back into the movie in the extended edition.
  • A Dirty Shame - Due to the context of the film and the circumstances at the time it came out, it was heavily edited in order to receive an R, despite having content that had been seen in previous R-rated comedies. This is known as the "Neutered Edition".
  • Alexander - Some of the sexuality was removed, and the gore was removed from the therical cut, the unrated final cut added these scenes back into the movie.
  • Aliens vs Predator Requiem - Some violence was removed from the flim, the DVD is unrated and added those scenes back into the movie.
  • American Pie - Some sexual scenes were cut in order to get a R rating, it was added back in the unrated DVD
  • American Pie 2 - Sexual situations were reduced and nudity were removed in order to get a R rating, it was added back in the unrated DVD
  • American Pie American Wedding - Nudity and language were removed in order to get a R rating, it was added back in  the unrated DVD
  • American Pie Presents Band Camp - And scene with nudity was removed in order to get a R rating, it was added back in  the unrated DVD
  • American Pie Presents Beta House - Any scene with nudity was removed in order to get a R rating , it was added back in the unrated DVD
  • American Pie Presents: The Book of Love - Sexual Situations were removed in order to get a R rating, it was added back in the unrated DVD.
  • American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile - Nudity was removed and sexual situations were reduced in order to get a R rating. It was added back in the unrated DVD.
  • American Reunion -Nudity was removed, sexual situation were reduced and language was removed in order to be rated R. It was added back in the unrated DVD.
  • American Psycho - Shots of extreme violence and explicit sex removed to avoid an NC-17. Unrated edition released on home video.
  • America the Beautiful - A PG-13 cut was created/rated by the MPAA, possibly for educational use, which removes strong language and sexual references that originally got the film an R rating.
  • Amityville: The Awakening - Originally rated R for "strong horror violence and for language", re-edited to receive a PG-13.
  • Anchorman 2: The Legend - Some sexual humor was cut, this was done so the flim would be rated PG-13 rating. Rereleased in theaters with an R rating after initial failure; this R-rated version is also available on home video.
  • A-Team -The movie was edited down to a PG-13 rating, the F-word was censored.
  • Avatar - Nine minutes was cut out of the movie in order to reduce the runtime, the blu ray adds these scenes back in.
  • Babyon A.D - Some language was removed, any mentions of death were cut and some of the violence was cut in order to get a PG-13 rating, The DVD is unrated and adds these scenes back into the movie.
  • Bad Moon - An opening intercut of sex and violence was edited to avoid an NC-17.
  • Basic Instinct - Particularly explicit scenes re-edited with different angles to avoid an NC-17. Unrated edition released on home video.
  • Dawn of Justice: Batman vs. Superman - Some violence was removed to get a PG-13 rating. The film was later released with an R-Rated director's cut.
  • Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker -Violence/blood was either edited down or completely removed in order to get a PG rating, there is a released directors cut that is rated PG-13.
  • Black & White - Some strong sexual content cut to receive an R rating.
  • Bob the Butler - A scene of partial nudity and some sexual humor removed to get a PG rating.
  • Body of Evidence - Graphic sex scenes were toned down/removed to avoid an NC-17 rating. Unrated version released on home video.
  • Breaking the Rules - Originally received an R rating; re-edited for a PG-13.
  • Bully - Scene involving a bully harassing a child and using multiple F-words edited to avoid an R rating.
  • Caligula -Was censored in order to get a R rating, nudity was censored.
  • Daredevil -The studio censored the film in order to make it get the more family friendly PG-13 rating. The violence was toned down in order to avoid the R rating, it latter got a R rated director's cut.
  • Dead Alive - Heavily cut from 97 minutes to 85 minutes, removing extreme violence to avoid an NC-17. Unrated edition released on home video.
  • Dream House - Some graphic violence removed to receive a PG-13 rating.
  • Ever After: A Cinderella Story - A PG-rated version on VHS removed a few uses of the F-word that earned the original a PG-13 for "momentary strong language". Released uncut on DVD.
  • Eyes Wide Shut - Shots of explicit sex covered by digitally added figures to avoid an NC-17. Unrated edition released on home video.
  • Fast Times at Ridgemont High - Male frontal nudity was removed from a sex scene in order to avoid an X.
  • The Fog - Longer shots of a man burning alive were removed in order to receive a PG-13. Unrated edition released on home video.
  • Footloose(1984) - Re-edited to receive a PG rating, removing an F-word and a shot of male frontal nudity.
  • Freddy Got Fingered - Edited as a joke to receive a PG rating (the PG-rated cut is only 3 minutes long and included as a bonus on the DVD).
  • Freeway- Some explicit sexual dialogue removed to receive an R rating.
  • Ghost Rider - Some charater development was removed from the flim, those scenes were added back into the movie in a exteened cut.
  • Ghostbusters - Strong language was removed from the flim in order to get a PG-13 rating, these scenes are added back into the movie in the exteened edition.
  • Ghost Writer - Strong language was removed from the flim in order to get a PG-13 rating.
  • G.I Joe Retaliation - Some violence was removed from the flim, these scenes were added back into the movie in a exteened cut.
  • Girl Next Door - Nudity and language were cut, sexual situations were reduced in order to get a R rating. The unrated DVD adds these scenes back into the movie.
  • Green Lantern - Some language and character development was cut out of the flim.
  • Gummo - Scene of a young child huffing removed to receive an R rating.
  • Hancock - Re-edited to receive a PG-13 rating; the unrated version released on home video shows that these edits were likely removing a comic sex scene and an additional use of the F-word.
  • Ichi the Killer - A number of very violent and sexual scenes were cut for an R rating.
  • I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry - Originally rated R (and upheld on appeal), re-edited to receive a PG-13 rating. A common rumor is that one of the things the MPAA objected to was a homosexual kiss on the lips, threatening to give the film an R rating unless it was cut.
  • Inside Deep Throat - The R-rated version of the film censors a scene in which explicit unsimulated oral sex is visible. Unedited version rated NC-17.
  • Into the Grizzly Maze - Originally rated R for "violence, grisly images, language, and brief sexuality/nudity". Re-edited version rated PG-13 for "animal attack/disturbing images, violence, terror, brief sexuality and language".
  • Josie and the Pussycats - Some language and sexual innuendo was removed from a 'family edition' home video release for a PG rating.
  • The King's Speech - Scene of man working through his stutter by using strong language edited in a PG-13 edition of the film. (The original scene had 18 F-words, the PG-13 edition has 1.) This cut was never released on home video.
  • Logan's Run - Some strong violence and sexual content removed to receive a PG rating.
  • Mortdecai - Re-edited in a PG-13 edition on its video on demand release to try to draw in a new market.
  • Perfect Blue - Shots of full-frontal nudity cropped, as well as some graphic gore removed and a rape scene shortened in order to receive an R rating. Unrated edition released on home video.
  • Postmark Paradise - A PG-13 version was released on home video which removed some brief strong language.
  • The Raid 2 - Cut for an R rating, though the director mentioned in an interview that the changes were very subtle/a matter of a few frames.
  • Rio - Originally rated PG for "mild off color humor". Re-edited to receive a G.
  • Robocop - Had to be repeatedly resubmitted to the MPAA to secure an R rating over an X, finally secured by adding comedic relief that toned down the overall impact of the film.
  • Saturday Night Fever - After the mass success of the R-rated version, a PG-rated cut was released for a wider audience. This cut dubbed over/muted strong language and explicit sexual references, as well as cutting some nudity and a rape scene.
  • Sausage Party - Pubic hair on a pita bread's scrotum had to be removed to avoid an NC-17 rating.
  • Scream - scenes of gore had to be cut or shortened to achieve an R rating.
  • Spider - Man-Some violence and blood was removed in order to get a PG-13 rating.
  • Sucker Punch - The movie's theatrical cut was censored in order to get a PG-13 rating, strong language was removed, the violence was toned down, and sexual content was removed. These scenes were latter added in a R rated extended edition.
  • Suicide Squad-Sexual Situations were removed and the violence was toned down.
  • Super Size Me - An 'educational version' was released with a PG rating specifically for schools, removing bad language and sexual references.
