Censorship

censors "councel[ing ...] the suicide of another", that is:

  • Sites describing how to commit suicide IF it is linked to an actual suicide
  • Sites promoting suicide

"The mere publication on the internet, or in other media, of information that may be used to assist and/or encourage suicide is not of itself an offence of assisting suicide under section 2 of the Suicide Act. For that offence to be committed, there needs to be an intention to aid an actual or attempted suicide and for the suicide or attempted suicide to then take place. But sites which intentionally encourage suicide risk prosecution for the offence of attempting to assist suicide under section 1 of the Criminal Attempts Act, and where there is then a link to an actual or attempted suicide they risk prosecution for the offence of assisting suicide."
